Week 9: Primer, ceiling paint, and wall paint

This was a very productive week. I’m tired, my feet, arms and back are sore – but I feel excited about the house again. We are finally putting the house back together rather than tearing it apart. I haven’t spent much time at the house over the last few weeks because Tony has been busy working on the drywall. But now it’s my turn again, and it’s fun to be at the house and get stuff done! Paint is such a great stage because there is significant change in just a few short days.

Primer

On Saturday I primed the entire house. Ceilings, walls, and doors. I wasn’t sure what type of paint was on the walls from the previous owners, so just in case it was oil paint I decided it would be best to prime everything. And I got the good primer too, the stuff that is supposed to seal in any stains and smells.

Ceiling Paint

On Monday I painted two coats of ceiling paint. I didn’t realize just how yellow the ceilings were until I painted them white. White ceilings make the whole house feel cleaner and brighter. I love the ceiling paint that goes on pink and dries white. It’s a little more expensive, but it’s a lot easier to see where I’ve painted.

Wall paint

Tuesday I was able to finish the last of the wall paint. I love using an 18″ roller, it makes painting go so much quicker. (If you want some painting tips, I wrote an entire post about that). The color I chose for this house is called Crushed Ice by Sherwin Williams. I know it looks very much like white, but it is a very light warm grey with a neutral undertone. You can tell just how different it is from white if you look at the picture of the painted kitchen.

The house still looks like a mess, but in comparison to last week the progress this week was huge!

NEXT WEEK

I plan to do some more of the flooring on Saturday. I finished the flooring in one room (which I then spilled a ton of paint on) but I should be able to finish the flooring in the rest of the house over the next week.

Wow! I like that crushed ice color. I also wanted to just say keep up the hard work. It is totally worth it when it is all done. I moved into a fixer upper and it was pink. Pink carpet, pink walls and pink ceiling. It has taken time and love but I want to second the get the pink tone turns white ceiling paint. I did not and six coats of white later, I still find spots where I think I see a little pink peeking through on that ceiling. LOL.
