Last week I showed Part 1 of this tutorial, how to quilt the front and back pieces of your Christmas stocking. This week I”ll show you how to sew all the pieces together, add a lining, and the cuff.
Sew front and back pieces together
After you have made your front and back pieces, pin them right sides together. Sew around all the edges, except for the top, with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

Remove the pins and trim the edges. Clip the curved corners so when you turn them right side out there will be less bulk.
Turn the stockings right side out, and iron them flat.

Make the lining
I used a soft baby blanket for the lining. We have so many blankets from when the kids were little, so I figured they wouldn’t mind too much if I cut this one up. Cut out two pieces using the template, but make sure they are opposite of each other. The best way to do this is to fold the fabric, and cut two pieces at once.

Pin these two lining pieces right sides together, then sew them with a 1/4 seam allowance. Don’t sew along the top, and also leave a 2-3 inch opening on one side. This leaves an opening so you can turn the whole stocking when you’re finished.

Make the Cuff
Using the information in the template, cut out two rectangles 13 inches wide and 3 1/4 inches tall (cuff part 1). Also cut out another rectangle 13 inches wide and 8 inches tall (cuff part 2). I used a ruffled crib skirt for the stocking cuff so my pictures will be slightly different than what you will make with the template. However, you can easily make a simple folded cuff if you follow these instructions:
- Fold the bigger rectangle (cuff part 2) in half WRONG sides together.
- Lay one rectangle of cuff part 1 down, with right side up.
- Lay the larger folded rectangle (cuff part 2) on top of cuff part 1, matching up the raw edges.
- Lay the next rectangle of cuff part 1 on top, with right side down.
- Sew all the raw edges of these pieces together along the long edge, with a 1/4 inch seam allowance
Open up the seam, and press it flat. You will now have a rectangle approximately 13 inches wide, and 7 inches tall. One side will have raw edges, the other side will have the finished folded edge.
At this point you can also add a small loop to hang up the stocking. Pin the short edges of the cuff, right sides together. Put the loop in the center where the cuff will fold over.

Sew all the pieces together
Gently slide the cuff over the stocking, and pin the raw edges along the top of the stocking.
Next pull the lining up over the entire stocking and cuff. Make sure it’s inside out so the right sides are together. Pin that as well to the top edge. You will now have all the raw edges together along the top of the stocking. Sew all the way along the top of the stocking, with a large seam allowance to make sure you catch all the pieces.

Turn right side out
Then from the hole in the lining, turn the whole Christmas stocking right side out. By hand, sew up the hole in the lining. This way there are no visible seams anywhere.

Quilted Christmas stocking from baby clothes
I got this idea for easy quilted stockings from my sister, who made similar stockings, and is a much better sewer than I am (you can check out their Facebook page here). But if you know how to use a sewing machine, this should be a simple enough project for you. I know that it may all seem confusing, with all the cutting, pinning, sewing, and turning. If you are going to make this Christmas stocking, and you have any questions about how I made mine, please feel free to get in touch and I can help you with any steps.
Good luck!
