Finished wood cabin exterior, more kitchen progress, and some furniture

The major task I’ve been working on at the cabin was finished up the wood cabin exterior. Some other jobs we continued to work on were the kitchen, plus were finally made some decisions on furniture.

The jobs to finish on the outside of the cabin were to install the siding and soffit on the back, putting on the corner trim, and then caulking all the joints and giving all the trim a final coat of stain. It looks so much brighter and cleaner now with crisp white trim.

Tony also installed the exterior light, and I made a little sign and hung up some coat hooks. I started making the handrail on the front deck, but ran out of screws, so will finish that off tomorrow.

Kitchen progress

Tony installed the upper cabinet doors, applied a butcher block oil to the countertops, and installed the sink. The remaining things to do in the kitchen are to install the faucet and the door handles, and put on the kick.

I also painted the bathroom door the same color as the kitchen cabinets.

Furniture decisions

We went back and forth on what couch to get for the living room. Ideally we would have wanted a pull-out couch or futon to allow for extra sleeping space. But that was just not possible. The living room is quite small and we couldn’t find anything that would fit. I found this small couch at the Restore, it’s small and comfortable and will work just fine. I also found a counter height table with four chairs for the kitchen.

NEXT STEPS

The next major task is landscaping. Tony is renting a mini excavator this weekend to level out the dirt all over the place and move rocks around. There are a few other things to do like installing the toilet, finishing off the plumbing, the handrail in the loft, but then after that it will be a big clean up so I can take pictures and list this place on Airbnb!
