How to spray paint Christmas ornaments

Are you looking for an easy and inexpensive way to update your Christmas tree ornaments? I’m going to show you how I totally changed the look or our ornaments using leftover cans of colorful spray paint and glitter. Find out how to spray paint Christmas ornaments!

Old Christmas Ornaments

We have had the same Christmas ornaments for almost ten years. We bought some very inexpensive ornaments when we were first married, and I have always done the blue and silver tree. Now four houses and four children later, I wanted to do something different.

The Colorful Plan

This year I wanted to create a colorful tree that would be fun for the kids. We are totally at the Christmas tree stage where it’s full of handmade and sentimental ornaments, and I love it. I’m embracing it this year, and going all out with the color.

If you’re like me, you probably have oodles of half empty spray paint cans in your collection that you can use up. I chose to do different shades of blue, green, pink, yellow, and maroon.

Spray Paint Your Ornaments

I had planned to spray paint them outside, but any little bit of wind blew the ornaments around. So I moved into the garage and spray painted them on a sheet of plywood. There’s probably a better way to do it, because my ornaments kept rolling around, which smudged the paint and picked up dust. I did quite a few coats to get an even coverage, but several of them still ended up with paint drips. They’re not perfect, but I still think they turned out pretty great.

I ran out of a few colors before I was finished so I mixed the colors. That ended up being a happy accident because I really love the ones the best with multiple colors.Update ornaments with spray paint and glitter

This was a very inexpensive update. I bought two extra cans of spray paint to add to my collection (that were on sale for less than $5 each). I was also able to empty three of the cans, so in total my spray paint collection has decreased!

Add Some Bling

I also had a can of spray glitter that I used on most of the ornaments. I ran out of that can too, so on a few of them I used my spray adhesive and dipped the bottom half of the ornaments in sparkly glitter.

I would have put the ornaments in a box that way they would not have rolled around when painted?

Love it❤️❤️❤️ I’m going to use clothespins to hang from twine so they will be still or even feed them on the twine. Maybe hanging them will help! Definitely love the colors you chose!!!
