The master bedroom really only needed a few changes to bring it up to date. Like the rest of our third house, there was lots of dated 90s oak on the floor, trim and doors. Here are some of the before pictures before the master bedroom makeover.
This was when we removed everything from the room before Tony refinished the floors. There was really nothing wrong with the room, but we wanted to refinish the floors and paint the trim and doors to match the rest of the house.

The wall color was nice already, but I wanted to lighten up the room a bit. I used Frog Tape to tape off some lines on the headboard wall and painted the wall with Behr Ashen Tan, leaving three darker stripes of the original wall color. Then I taped off stripes around the rest of the room and also painted that with the lighter paint color.
Tony refinished the master bedroom floor in December 2015 before we had baby #4. He rented a sander from Home Depot and spent a whole day removing the old finish. Then he stained it with Minwax Jacobean stain, and finished it with three coats of satin finish polyurethane for floors.
There was something weird about the ceiling fan where only two of the bulbs would work at a time. I always found this room so dark, so Tony was able to fix the lights so that all four bulbs worked at the same time. At the same time, I removed all the blades and spray painted them white, then put them back on with the wicker facing the ceiling. It looks so much better and brighter!
We replaced the closet doors too with JELD-WEN Cambridge bi-fold doors. We also replaced all the bedroom doors with the same style of door. Then I just added a few hot pink accessories from thrift stores, and this master bedroom makeover is finished!
