Over the last few weeks we’ve half finished quite a few jobs, and finished a few things that are pretty boring but still necessary. Some of the major things we’ve been working on were replacing the loft flooring, working on the plumbing, finishing the vapor barrier, and start putting up the wall paneling. And Tony figured out how to get internet to the cabin, so if our guests want to work from home away from home, they will have decent internet.
The biggest change was the flooring in the loft. We weren’t happy with the tongue and groove pine that we put down, so decided it would be best to rip it up and lay down vinyl click flooring instead.
After taking up the pine flooring, I glued and screwed down some plywood to make a nice solid surface.
And then I installed the flooring the same way as I did on the main floor of the cabin. This flooring will be much easier to keep clean than the wood floor would have been.
Pine Wall Paneling
Before installing the wall paneling, I wanted to bring a lot of it inside to acclimate for a little while. After we installed the ceiling boards, we realized that they shrunk a fair bit and now there are some fairly large gaps. If you leave the boards inside for a while to dry out, they won’t shrink as much after installing them.
After a week or two of letting the boards dry out, I started nailing the boards to the walls using a 15 gauge finishing nailer. It goes pretty quickly, once I get to work, but at this point all I’ve finished is the kitchen and a few rows around the cabin. We plan to polyurethane all the pine to protect it, but to leave the natural color of the wood.
I also decided on a front door paint color, which I will also be using for the claw foot bathtub! And we bought the kitchen cabinets, I decided on the cabinet color, and Tony has been working on the plumbing and a few other finishing details.
That’s about it!
Refinish the bathtub, finish the walls, work on the bathroom, and start on the kitchen.
