Watercolor Art On White Cotton Canvas

Hi friends! I’m finally getting around to sharing with you a tutorial for the watercolor art that I made as part of my hallway makeover during this year’s spring One Room Challenge. For the challenge I finished installing, caulking, and painting a lot of the trim and doors in our house, but mainly focused on finishing the hallway.

With the hall makeover I created a gallery wall so we could display some family pictures. I did a bunch of easy DIY’s for the gallery wall including painting pictures frames I already had with navy blue chalk paint, dying fabric to cover the picture frame matts, and spray-painted an antique mirror bright pink.

watercolor art in a colorful gallery wallAs part of the gallery wall I wanted to include some colorful art with words that mean a lot to us. The words I chose were “faith” and “family”. I created watercolor art on white cotton canvas using a water based resist and watercolor fabric paints. Once finished I put the watercolor fabric in some vintage oval frames.

Supplies needed

  • Printed word or phrase on paper
  • White cotton canvas
  • Spray bottle with water
  • Jacquard water-based resist
  • Applicator squeeze bottle
  • Jacquard Dye-Na-Flow Liquid
  • Paint brushes

You can see my full tutorial for creating your own watercolor word art at The Weathered Fox. Crystal from The Weathered Fox writes all about home renovations and decor, and has a beautiful farmhouse style. I’m very excited to be contributing to her blog once a month!
